Meet The Team

AMY SCARR
BSc (Physio)
Physiotherapist / Women’s Health Specialist

Amy's enthusiasm for women's health grew from an elective placement as a physiotherapy student in 2006.  After graduating from Curtin University in 2008 she spent the first 6 years of her career gaining varied experience in public hospitals in Perth, Darwin, Toowoomba and Brisbane, later moving into private practice to accommodate family life.   Amy began post graduate training in women's health in 2010 and has since completed extensive training in this field including pregnancy and postpartum, stress and urge incontinence, anorectal dysfunction, pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic pain and lymphoedema as well as paediatric bladder and bowel dysfunction.

Combining her extensive training with skills and experience gained from her time in Oncology and Radiation Oncology at a tertiary Brisbane hospital she provides specialist support to women through their journey with breast and pelvic cancers.  Amy strives to break down the all too common attitude that one's symptoms, no matter how big or small, are "part and parcel" of their cancer treatment (or age, or pregnancy/ childbirth) and aims to empower women to thrive in their survivorship.

Amy is passionate about helping women to move well, live well and fully participate in all aspects of life at any age and stage. Her focus is one of whole body health and always considers heart, mind and bone health in the setting of pelvic floor dysfunction. She believes there is no greater working privilege than supporting women through all life stages - witnessing women evolve and adapt as they celebrate their pregnancy, overcoming challenges and revelling in the joys of motherhood and beyond.

Becoming a mother herself has shaped Amy's approach to treatment as one of understanding, forgiveness and empowerment.  She is her happiest when cheering her two children on at a sporting field or theatre and witnessing their joy in movement, music and mateship.  She is passionate about leading by example  and enjoys stand up paddle boarding, swimming, family bike rides and strength training. She's also been known to sport retro floral rollerblades at the local skate park, much to the amusement (or embarrassment) of her kids.
